Signs in Sound

Growing up as the child of deaf parents, communication for me meant a delicate dance of sign language, lip reading, interpreting body language, and, of course, jotting down notes. Yet, it was sign language that served as our primary mode of connection. From an early age, amidst this unique mode of communication, my fascination with music blossomed. In elementary school, I harbored dreams of becoming a DJ, drawn to the B-boy and hip hop culture that thrived in the 80s. However, a poignant realization dawned on me – the music I cherished would forever remain an enigma to my parents, unable to be experienced in the same way as the rest of the world.

As my teenage years unfolded, I delved into beat making, inspired by The Neptunes and The Alchemist. Yet, a lingering thought persisted – how could my parents ever truly grasp the essence of sound? As life progressed, around the age of 25, familial responsibilities beckoned, leading me to manage a clothing boutique. While my passion for music remained unwavering, my focus shifted, and I found solace in the paths I had chosen, acknowledging the evolution of my dreams.

Now, as a devoted husband, father, and follower of Jesus, my aspirations revolve around creating legacies that honor God. It was during this introspection that a divine spark ignited within me – the concept of crafting candles inspired by music. These candles would encapsulate the essence of songs, albums, and playlists, allowing individuals to immerse themselves in the emotions evoked by music through scent. In this revelation, I found the answer to a long-standing question: how could my deaf parents experience music? Through the evocative fragrances of Seis White candles.

Although my parents have since passed on without witnessing this manifestation of divine inspiration, I pay homage to their memory by naming my favorite scent after them – Sign Language. Remarkably, this homage has become a sensation, with Sign Language candles flying off the website faster than I can stock them, a testament to the universal resonance of music, even in the absence of sound.
